Pre School Day 6

I really can't believe we've been doing this for 3 weeks now!  Who wudda thunk?  Today started of with what else but a birthday party.  The mommies in this group are so kind and thoughtful!  Thank you ladies!

never mind my stomach, NO I'm not pregnant just thick in the middle!

We had to blow out candles twice, kiddos love a birthday party too, even if its not their own!!

LB had us doing gourd prints today... too fun!

the finished product!!! gotta a little carried away, but still cute!

We continued with our Chicka Chicka theme.  The kids loved this activity.  We read the sentence and watched the letters climb the coconut tree.

We made our own coconut trees full of letters!

Another great day as school.  How great is our God!!!!

Go Erin its your Birthday...

So we're gonna party like its your birthday, go erin, go erin, go erin.... Yes, a little self involved, clearly, but I love myself a birthday party, always have, always will.  Yes, yes this year I turned 32 years young.  Is my life where I though it would be at 32 you ask?  Why yes it is (except for the fact that I would live to have at least 3 kids by now!!!)  I am blessed beyond measure to have a Christian husband and to be a stay-at-home-mommy.  Thank you Jesus for this life!
The day began with me in my PJ's and I did not get out of them until it was time for birthday dinner.  My Bekah came over early and we ate lunch and hung around doing NOTHING!!! (At which point Bekah got board and left for TJMaxx to shop!)

We had dinner at Bone Fish(my Britty, my Bekah Poppy, my dad's parents, Daddy,Mommy, Timmy and Jamie), oh so yummy and then came back to our house for cake and ice cream.  My mommy ordered me a Smith Island Cake from the Eastern Shore.  You can only get it there and yes, I am high maintenance on my birthday!

Two of my very favorite men!

3 of my favorite men, if my daddy was in the picture it would be all of my favorite men!!

Me, my Bekah and Baby Burns all in our party hats!!!!

My family is rather fantastic and I love them all dearly!!!

Pre School day 5!!!!

This morning went quick!!!!!  Today's agenda...
  • Prayer
  • Opening
  • Empathy Lesson ... We talked about nice things to say to our friends and made friendship bracelets to give to each other with nice words on them.
  • Math... We had a leaf hunt!!!! We went outside and collected leaves.  We came back in and did math!  Everyone chose their favorite leaf and we made a graph to see how many different color leaves we collected.
  • Art  We read the book "Leaf Man" and made leaf people from our leaves.
  •

  • Bible... We continued our study of Ephesians 4:32 Be kind and loving to each other. Forgive each other as God forgave you in Christ.  We acted out how it would feel if a toy was snatched away from us.  Then we practiced using kind and loving words instead of "snatching."
Last we had snack and played outside.
I will say again what a blessing this group is.  Each mother is dedicated to the group and helping all of our children learn about our world with Jesus in the center of everything.  I just couldn't ask for more.  To be quite honest I have spent a large majority of my life being envious of other people for a variety of things.  And now that I am a mother I read lots of other mothers' blogs and think how I will be never be a good enough mother.  But teaching my child and having fellowship with other mothers as we teach our children together feels really good, kinda like I'm doing just what God wants me to (and that doesn't happen very often.)

Pre School Day 4!

Today our group was rather small, but we still had a good morning, although I was a little lazy daisy I must admit!!!

Our main areas of focus today were Math, Art, Snack and PLAY!!!!

Math... I read "Countdown to Fall" and then we did math centers in mommy and me partners.  We worked on sorting numbers from letters, number order, quantity and one to one correspondence.

Art... THANK YOU LB!!!  LB is our art momma!  She is super amazing at always having something creative for us to do.  I know its a lot of work getting all the materials together and I am so super grateful to her!  We made "sit upons" so when we come together as a group everyone one as their own special spot to sit in.

Snack... I found this online.  I love that the directions are simple and clear so each child can make their own snack!!! (Its supposed to be a butterfly by the way!!)

Today Natalie was sick so she wasn't at school.  Jamie has become quite smitten with Ms. Natalie.  I have never seen him act like this.  He gets SO giggly when he sees her or talks about her.  It is TOO funny.  Right after school was over today he made her a get well card.  Too cute!!!!

Nature Tots

Now, on Monday mornings Jamie is taking a nature class at a local estuary center. It is super neat. He seems to really like it. The first class was about how birds migrate in the winter. He had to "fly" around to each station to see if he would make it south for the winter. Unfortunately some people were mean to him with bebe gun and poor little Jamie bird didn't make it south! (Not for real of course it was just part of the activity!)

coloring his bird project

helping to clean up

learning about different types of birds by their feathers

geting ready for the migration activity.  jamie was a warbler of some sort.

he got "banded" during migration (this was before the "bebe gun" incident)

perching his bird he made earlier

outside getting bird seed from Miss Becky to fee the birds.

Pre School day 3!!

Another stand out morning.  I mean this whole thing could really be a disaster!  But its just not!  At least so far.  Why do I continue to be shocked that this is working?????  I just don't get it!  Well,  I do get it, Jesus is in charge and I guess He is all about it! :0)

Art...
Today was "free art" so we dove into finger paints.  I think it was the first time for all the kids.  Good times!

Language...

I read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom (well I let the CD sing it, more fun that way!) Afterward we got into "mommy and me" partners and worked in learning centers. We went fishing for letters, spelled our names with magnetic letters and matched alphabet cards with the letters on the playroom wall.

Bible...
We reviewed our verse (Ephesisans 4:32)  and listened as Miss Lauren read "The Good Samaritan" out of the "Beginners Bible."  We discussed the story and the kids were really into to.  I am simply amazed at what children absorb at such a young age.  They're a bunch of smarty pants!!!!

Of course we played, but not outside because it was raining.  I set up Jamie's tents and tunnels with the little ball pit and the kids ran around my dining room and living room.  LOVE IT!

We learned that one way to show empathy is to ask friends "How are you feeling?" and the most important part is to wait and listen to their answer.  Kate has been teaching this unit.  She is so authentic in her teaching!!! Thanks Kate you ROCK!
